Book Review: “Uprooted” by Naomi Novik (Published on 2016)

Fiction/Young Adult/Fantasy (standalone)

Book Plot:
Agnieszka is a clumsy village girl who unexpectedly gets chosen by the dragon, a wizard, to live in a castle with him far away from her home. She discovers a lot about herself, her village and the woods which makes her put her own life in danger to save her village and the people she loves.

Book Review:

Unlike the plot (which sounds pretty interesting) the book itself was a disappointment. Maybe if you are Polish this book might make more sense to you (since the author’s inspirations came from her heritage) or you could at least read the characters names and the magic spells they use, you might even know a little more about the world the book is set in. (I needed a map to follow which unfortunately was not provided like I’d expect fantasy books to do so)
I forced myself to finish this book in hopes of getting some answers about why Agnieszka was so special and how the woods became corrupted (and of course about the queen which I won’t say much about in case of spoilers) but nothing was really explained. (there was a little bit of explanation in the last 2 chapters which left me even more confused)
Overall the writing was a total mess and it seemed like things just happened with no reason or proper explanation to back it up. the story sure does come to an end but it leaves you with so many unanswered questions which is why I gave it only 1 star.

Favourite Quote:
There was none. (I can’t believe I couldn’t even find a sentence I like in this book)

I don’t like being negative about the books I read but I don’t want to give a false review either. Let me know if you guys have read this book and what you think about it. I would love to hear about your thoughts on this too!

Little Dino off to read now ~~~
